Did you know some girls in Africa can't go to school cuz they get thier period? They also miss school cuz they spend a lot of time trying to find clean water and helping around the house to survive. I hate to think of spoiled US citizens who tsk tsk troubles around the world and do nothing. I'm also not sure about US citizens heloing by being consumers. But since I buy this product anyway, I hope this company will do its best to help girls in Africa. So I'm going to give my money to this company, so check it out for yourself. Let me know if you hear this company is not doing its job. Go to www.protectingfutures.com and check it out.

Yeah...not so much
OK so I was supposed to be doing knitting graffiti as a way of raising consciousness. I haven't really done any since my first "tag." I've been too busy trying to juggle raising an obnoxious 11 year old, going to grad school and managing a bunch of slackers in the computer labs for low pay. I started a scarf for a sculpture on campus but I'm using Homespun and I hate it. I need to get over I get guess. Ah well, it's just so hard trying to save the world when I've got so many other things going on. How did MLK, Rosa Parks and Malcolm X do it? All I have to do is knit. They had people trying to kill them. I think I need more people. Anyone want to knit for revolution?

Who else has written about knitting?
Well I found this link http://userpages.umbc.edu/~korenman/wmst/knitting.html where apparetnly I already did. I don't know why I got discouraged from writing about knitting for my thesis but I've been thinking about it for 4 years now.
Here's a link to someone who is doing a documentary on knitting/craft as a cultural explosion. It's mostly, white, hip, young women as far as I can tell. The clip shows no people of color, no one doing craft as a means of economic necessity (AKA poor folks) or crafts as a means of therapy/learning/social needs.
http://www.artvscraft.com/indiecraft(11).html
This site looks promising as a combination of craft and activism and has lots of links to other sites combining crafts with different forms of activism/education/social concerns
http://www.craftivism.com/
I'm starting to build a bibliography of articles and books that I will list later. But for now check out this sorry attempt at felting!
